2009 WELCOME TO SECOND GRADE I'd like to welcome the second grade students back to school. Our first weeks of school have been wonderful! I am pleased to have eleven hard working students in my class this year. They are delightful! I'd like to encourage the parents to get in touch with me if they have any questions or concerns. Please feel free to contact me at school or at home with any questions, problems, or concerns you may have. Our class will visit the library for a half-hour every Thursday with our librarian, Mrs. Butler. Please remind your child to return their books by the following Thursday. It will help your child be a better reader if you read the library books with them each week. Please remind your child to share their papers and notes with you every night after school. Their take-home folder will be in their bookbag. Please go over the work papers that are brought home each day. My students are asked to show their parents or guardians their folders so they can check for notes, homework, and graded papers. This will help you keep in touch with what your child is doing in school. Work not finished in class is homework and is usually due the next school day. Occasionally I do send home assigned homework which is due the following school day also. All students are encouraged to read at home every night for extra credit. Prizes will be awarded to those students that read at home and return slips with their parent's or guardian's signature. I feel it is the right of every student to have a classroom in which each child is able to learn to his/her potential. To provide the best atmosphere for learning, an orderly classroom is necessary. Rules have been established which I feel are reasonable. Each child will be expected to abide by these rules. I do reinforce positive behavior. Rewards will be given to students that obey the rules. There are consequences for those students that do not follow the rules. Cooperation from parents is certainly appreciated. I feel a close relationship between parents and teacher is very important to your child's progress. A good learning experience is built on a cooperative effort between parent, child, and teacher. With your participation in and out of the classroom we can look forward to a productive, creative, and fun year together! Thank you so much. I LOVE THIS CLASS ALREADY!
