Welcome to Fourth Grade!

Parent Night was a great success.  Thanks to all who attended. During the next month the class will be working on a measurement unit in math.  We will be using our tape measures to measure and record a variety of items.  In science we will be learning about weather, simple machines and conducting several experiments.  We will be writing a personal narrative and poems on summer. The class will be studying Illinois in social studies.  Each student has a packet on Illinois that they will complete.  Some of the pages will be done at school and some will need to be finished at home.  We finished our first read aloud with Henry Winkler’s series Hank Zipzer. This series is about a 4th grader and his experiences in school.  It was a delightful book and the class enjoyed Hank’s antics.  We will create landforms with the seventh grade.  We will also spend some time cleaning up around the school.

Each night, your student will have approximately 40-50 minutes of homework.

10 minutes of spelling

20 minutes of math

10 minutes of science, language, or social studies

10 free reading or flash cards

Students will usually have homework on Monday-Thursday.  Some projects might require you to assist your student at home on the weekend.

The fourth and fifth grades will participate in their annual Timber-Lee overnight field trip in October. I will be sending out more information as soon as I know more.

Thanks so much for providing the necessary supplies needed to start the school year. Please remember to check the planners each night. I’m excited about teaching fourth grade and I’m looking forward to a great year.

If you have any questions or concerns call me at school or write a note in the planner.
