Wow! What a year! The 4th graders have been extremely busy this past quarter. The class presented science discoveries during the 4th grade Science Fair. They also became travel guides for a variety of states as they informed others during our State Fair. The class enjoyed performing for our VIP program. Students introduced their guests; recited poems, sang songs and enjoyed refreshments. Outdoor Science is Fabulous! Everyone was excited when we launched our water bottle rockets on the front lawn! We learned how to create power point presentations with the help of 6th grade student teachers. After researching river animals, birds and fish we presented our projects to the 3rd grade. We had the opportunity to learn more about the Mississippi River and President Grant as we prepared for our field study day in Galena and Dubuque. Our day started early. In the morning we toured President Grant’s Galena home. After lunch in the park, we walked along the Mississippi River before touring the Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. The highlights for most students were the playful otters and slithering snakes. Miss Greene liked the erosion and flood tables. It was a beautiful day and everyone was exhausted when we returned. Professor Zollman, from NIU visited our classroom and we learned more about fractions and geometry. We made our own colorful tessellations and geometry designs. Baseball Math has been our end of the year unit in math. We designed and created individual baseball cards, figured averages, wrote about baseball in our journals, and finally viewed a baseball film while decorating our own baseball jerseys. Finally the class assembled their 4th grade scrapbooks with the help of Mrs. Niemeyer. It has been a truly eventful school year! Thanks for all your help in making my transition to fourth grade a success! Enjoy the summer and don’t forget to READ!
