Our Great Horned Owl at Kings School For the last few months our school has been home to a female Great Horned Owl. We have used spotting scopes and binoculars to watch the owl. Those students lucky enough to be under the nest when she comes out get a real close-up view. We now have an owlet that is out for us to see and of course there are some owl pellets under the tree to observe. Click here for a link for the owl and her young. I think the students are very fortunate to see such a large nocturnal bird out during the day, so often. I think the shrieks of the kindergartners drive it out of the nest every day. Of course when she was on the nest we did not see her for 3 or 4 weeks. Enjoy. UPDATE The owls have left the nest and have not been seen for a week now. We sure enjoyed the opportunity to watch them while they were here. Maybe they will be back next year. |
